Lewisham Southwark College Shortlisted for RICS Awards 2017
Lewisham Southwark College has been shortlisted for the RICS awards 2017 in two categories: ‘Design Through Innovation’ and ‘Community Benefit’. RHA have recently completed the £40M redevelopment of the college with Platform 5 Architects. The final phase of the redevelopment provides new facilities for drama and the performing and digital arts, as well as a new business school and suite of teaching spaces. It also establishes the triple height atrium space as the heart of the college encouraging interdisciplinary interaction across the campus. The awards ceremony will be held in May. The Yarrow Hotel Shortlisted for RICS Awards 2017
RHA are delighted to announce that a second project - The Yarrow Hotel - has also been shortlisted for the RICS awards 2017, in two more categories: ‘Leisure and Tourism’ and ‘Commercial’. The project included the £4.5M remodelling and refurbishment of the Grade II Listed Jacobethan building for East Kent College. The building is a former children’s hospital which has now been converted into a 4 star hotel run by industry professionals as well as students of the college. The hotel opened in July 2016 and has been well received by the public and community alike. The hotel has also recently won a Kent Design and Development award for Best Public Building in the Education category. For more information about the hotel and the award click here

Phase 2 of the £40M refurbishment works to Lewisham Southwark College has been photographed by Alan Williams. The photographs aim to capture the building in use and the play of light on materials throughout the day. The second phase of the project completes the atrium space, providing a heart to the college, as well as a suite of new teaching spaces for business, digital and performing arts. The Yarrow Hotel Wins a Kent Design & Development Award
RHA are delighted to announce that The Yarrow Hotel has won the award for ‘Best Public Education Building’ at last night’s Kent Design & Development Awards ceremony. The project included the remodelling and refurbishment of a Grade II Listed Jacobethan building for East Kent College to use as a training hotel. The Yarrow Hotel opened to the public in July 2016. Lewisham Southwark College Phase 2 Now Operational
The second phase of a £40M investment for Lewisham Southwark College is now operational at Waterloo. RHA have lead the team working with Platform 5 Architects in developing the project since inception. Phase 1 was completed in 2015 and included a major refurbishment and new build element to the existing college. Phase 1 received the AJ Retrofit Higher Education Award and was praised for the dramatic atrium and greatly improved efficiency. Phase 2 provides new facilities for drama and the performing and digital arts, a business school and a new suite of teaching spaces. The atrium space and entrance provides a heart to the college encouraging interdisciplinary interaction across the campus. The development of the site, has provided the college with exemplary facilities.

STEM Centre Starts on Site
A £2.5M Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Centre for Waltham Forest College will start on site next week. The new building within the grounds of the existing college will provide specialist facilities such as workshops, a life sciences laboratory and an ‘ideas hub’ where students can develop integrated science and technology skills and evaluate the development of their designs in production. The project also includes the partial refurbishment of the adjacent Lowery building which includes facilities for electronic testing and maintenance.
Yarrow Hotel: Kent Design and Development Awards 2016 Finalists
The Yarrow training Hotel has been shortlisted in three separate categories for the biennial Kent Design and Development Awards 2016. The Categories include: Commercial, Public Buildings (Education) and Conservation. The project brief included the complete refurbishment of an historic Grade II Listed building in Broadstairs, for the use of East Kent College as a training facility for its students. The Ashes Folly project has also been nominated for this award in the residential category and the winners are to be announced in December.

The Ashes Folly has been shortlisted for the biennial Kent Design and Development Awards, in the Residential Category. The project included the remodelling and contemporary extension of a Victorian House, in Hadlow, Kent. The winners will be announced in December.
Yarrow Training Hotel Grand Opening
RHA have completed the refurbishment of the Grade II Listed Yarrow Hotel in Broadstairs, Kent and it is now open to the public. Run by industry professionals, the new four star hotel was completed for East Kent college as a training facility for its students. The £4.5M refurbishment has provided a spa, salon, restaurant, function space, bar and 33 contemporary bedrooms and suites. The Ashes Folly: Brick Awards 2016 Finalist
RHA are delighted to announce that The Ashes Folly has been shortlisted for the Brick Awards 2016, in the ‘Individual House’ Category. The award considers any type of new dwelling that demonstrates how ‘brick can be used in an inspirational way in both contemporary and traditional settings.’ The awards received over 200 entries and the winners are announced on 10th November 2016. East Kent College
RHA attended the opening of the recently completed Centre for Creative Industries at East Kent College. The project includes a new auditorium, a complete refurbishment of the existing 1500sqm 1970’s building and associated glazed linking and landscaping elements. The project forms part of a wider masterplan for the college including the refurbishment of the Yarrow Training Hotel. Photographs by Graham Gardner.
The Ashes Folly
We are delighted that The Ashes Folly was a finalist for an RIBA South East award. The project included the remodelling of internal spaces in a Victorian House and new contemporary two storey extension.
The design aims to bring natural daylight into the main living spaces and maximise views across the Kent countryside.

Lewisham Southwark College has won the AJ Retrofit Higher Education Building of the Year. The judges commended the dramatic stair and improved efficiency of the design.
Yarrow Training Hotel
This exciting project for a new concept training environment started on site in October. This 30 bed facility will include a conference centre and beauty salons.
Waltham Forest College Master plan and Phase 1 & 2
RHA win the ‘non domestic’ Retro Expo 2013 Award.
We were very pleased to receive this award acknowledging the impact of our master planning and project management as well architecture, which has led to 50% reduction in energy use for this approximately 25,000m² estate. Further phases in development will continue this good practice.
The Ashes Folly
RHA are a finalist for the RIBA Journal Viewpoint Competition 2015. The scheme was commended for its control of views, ‘turning the ordinary into extraordinary’.
Waltham Forest College Phase 1
RHA have won the Retro Expo Award 2013. The national award panel commended the team design for making a dramatic impact on the culture and running costs of the college through good design and exemplary communication.
