‘Highly Commended’ in the Offsite Awards 2018
Director, Des O’Dwyer attended this year’s Offsite Awards ceremony and was delighted to pick up a ‘Highly Commended’ Award for the Marketing and Management Suite at SEGRO Park, Rainham. The project was awarded the commendation in the ‘Best use of Steel’ Category, for its innovative use of recycled shipping containers and offsite prefabrication construction. Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve Competition
RHA ‘s Nature and Wellbeing Centre for an international competition run by the RIBA is an exemplar in sustainability. The competition brief asked for a new £2M flagship visitor centre for the Kent Wildlife Trust on their existing reserve in Sevenoaks. The concept for the competition entry consisted of re-imaging and extending the existing concrete frame building to create a bridge between the formal welcome area and wild reserve beyond. Projecting from the building is a viewing platform formed from stacked recycled shipping containers, that rises above the trees and offers visitors a new perspective on the nature and activity within the woodlands.
Marketing Building Shortlisted for Two Offsite Awards
Our Marketing and Management Suite at SEGRO Park Rainham has been shortlisted for the Offsite Awards 2018 in two categories: ‘ Commercial Project of the Year’ and ‘ Best Use of Steel’. The Awards focus on projects that have represent ‘outstanding examples of prefabrication and factory based methods’. The Marketing and Management Suite is constructed from recycled shipping containers and it was pre-fabricated off site and craned in to position to streamline the construction. The building and RHA’s adjacent innovation village form part of SEGRO’s wider East Plus masterplan for regeneration of London Riverside delivered in partnership with the GLA.
Marketing Building for SEGRO’s Enterprise Quarter nears completion
Located prominently on the A13, the Marketing Suite at SEGRO Park Rainham will act as a gateway building for the new Enterprise Quarter. The building is constructed from recycled shipping containers, prefabricated off-site. It comprises two reception areas, a series of management offices, a large marketing suite and accompanying sanitary and kitchen facilities. RHA have also completed the design of 42 small to medium start-up units for the park, currently under construction. STEM Centre Completion
The construction phase of a new £2.5M STEM Centre building for Waltham Forest College is now complete. The building will provide specialist facilities for science, technology, engineering and maths including a fully functional motor vehicle service facility, electronic workshop and life sciences laboratory. The new centre will help promote engineering excellence at the college and allow them to teach more courses at their main campus building. This completes the fifth phase of works for the regeneration of the total college site. RHA have been involved in all five phases and works to date have included new buildings and extensive refurbishment of the existing buildings and landscape.
Progress on Site at SEGRO’s Enterprise Quarter
With piling complete and the frame starting to go up, good progress is being made on site at the new Enterprise Quarter at SEGRO Park in Rainham. RHA have designed 42 small to medium start-up units for young enterprises and a Marketing Suite for the developer: SEGRO. Located prominently on the A13, the Marketing Suite will act as a welcoming beacon for the new business park. The building is to be sustainably constructed from pre-fabricated shipping containers. Lewisham Southwark College Phase 2 Now Operational
The second phase of a £40M investment for Lewisham Southwark College is now operational at Waterloo. RHA have lead the team working with Platform 5 Architects in developing the project since inception. Phase 1 was completed in 2015 and included a major refurbishment and new build element to the existing college. Phase 1 received the AJ Retrofit Higher Education Award and was praised for the dramatic atrium and greatly improved efficiency. Phase 2 provides new facilities for drama and the performing and digital arts, a business school and a new suite of teaching spaces. The atrium space and entrance provides a heart to the college encouraging interdisciplinary interaction across the campus. The development of the site, has provided the college with exemplary facilities.

Thurrock Parkway Industrial Units Task completed
RHA have completed a study for a new vision set of industrial units for SME’s in Thurrock. Fitting into the market at the lower end of the scale of industrial premises, this was designed to create a vibrant community with a shared energy centre and community café. The scheme provides 16,500sq.m of starter or growth units adjacent to the Tilbury Docks in Essex. The development by Thurrock Council will support the councils growth and employment strategy whilst providing a revenue stream. The units are designed in a courtyard arrangement to maximise interaction between neighbouring businesses. The intention is to provide a strong identity for the new community.
Housing Development Submitted for Planning
RHA have submitted a 15 Unit housing development in North London for planning. The building, designed for Circle Housing Group, comprises of a series of elements that step down in scale from the street to protect vistas of the ‘Locally Listed’ College building at the rear of the site. The overall form and use of brick responds to its traditional Victorian context whilst showcasing contemporary details such as fret cut bronze balconies and full height glazing.
STEM Centre Starts on Site
A £2.5M Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Centre for Waltham Forest College will start on site next week. The new building within the grounds of the existing college will provide specialist facilities such as workshops, a life sciences laboratory and an ‘ideas hub’ where students can develop integrated science and technology skills and evaluate the development of their designs in production. The project also includes the partial refurbishment of the adjacent Lowery building which includes facilities for electronic testing and maintenance.
Rochester Airport Estate Completion
We have completed the £2.5M redevelopment of an industrial site on Rochester Airport Estate working with Michael Sparks Associates. The works comprised of a single 38000 sq ft warehouse terrace and associated landscaping providing four large industrial units with ancillary offices and service yards. The development for Canmoor will attract business to the area and investment into the local community.
Capital Space submitted for Planning
Following a competition win we have designed a new office building for Capital Space as part of their expansion at Kings Hill. This will be the first new office building on the estate for a while, delivering a new vision supporting small business and new sustainable entrepreneurial activity. The project is located in a sensitive setting within a group of Grade II Listed buildings built as RAF accommodation between the wars and our proposal provides a subtle image of modernity whilst respecting local materials and traditions.
Beam Reach Innovation Village
RHA has received Planning Approval for 42 small to medium start-up units for young enterprises and a Marketing Suite building in Rainham, London borough of Havering. The development forms part of the wider East Plus masterplan for investment in industrial regeneration in partnership with the GLA. Work is expected to start on site in Autumn 2016.

Beam Reach Innovation Village

The proposal for the developer Segro, includes 42 small to medium start-up units for young enterprises and an elevated Marketing Suite building (pictured). Langley Vale Woods Visitor Centre
Our submission for this recent RIBA competition proposed a community-built gateway between the arrival point and exploration of the extensive woodland. The imaginative design maximised the use of the natural landscape and contours to provide a platform to host a range of outdoor activities and showcase the WWII interpretation.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Centre
LEP approval from the GLA has been given to our project for a new STEM Centre for the college. This project will complete the North East corner of the campus adjacent to our recently completed Arts centre.
Centre for the Creative Arts
The new building completes the west courtyard of the college, creating 2,500m² of new space. The £6.5 project included a 2,400m² refurbishment of the adjacent east wing to form the new Centre for Business Studies, and a new lift for the college.
Our design for this major international competition for a new library was based on creating a democratic space with a free flowing publicly accessible concourse.
We are appointed to design a new business centre for Capital Space in Kings Hill. The 1500m² building is due to open in early 2017.
Catching up with old friends, we are appointed to design an Enterprise Centre for SEGRO in Barking. Part of East Plus, the largest deal of its kind between public and private land developer in the capital, the project is due to be submitted for planning permission in the spring of 2017.Read More...

RHA are appointed to design a new private house in the High Weald for Hemsted developers. The scheme will require an outstanding modern design to match the planning authority expectations.
